Over these past few years of the pandemic, research has shown that human contact was the number one thing that people missed, which significantly affected the quality of their lives and mental health. This was true for people of all ages. It has been especially lonely for the senior population and our company wants to be able to help with the mental health part of the entire health picture.
At Home Help of Binghamton employs wonderful, interesting companions who are excited to engage with a senior who resides primarily at home. A short walk, a drive to a park to feed the birds, or just to chit-chat is lovely for ambulatory people. Sometimes our seniors want to bring the newspaper to “their diner” at a designated time and have coffee – even if they cannot read anymore.
We honor the lives and tempo of our clients and want them to lead their regular life as much as possible. This could be watching a game show in the morning or the nightly news. Many of our seniors can still manage to engage with a computer, and it can be fun to browse the web for videos and social media. Also, having a companion helps ensure that a person’s memory keeps private information private, because some seniors become confused and fall prey to online advertising.
